It is the only kaza of mohafazat of Aakkar. It stretches of the river in El Bared River south to El Kebir along the Lebanese-Syrian border in the north, an area of up to 776 square kilometers, making it one of the greatest kaza of Lebanon.

It is bounded on the north by the international boundary, on the east by mohafazat of Baalbek-Hermel, on the west by the Mediterranean coast and on the south by kaza of Minieh-Danniyeh.

Its population is estimated at approximately 330,000 people, equivalent to 8.9% of the total population of Lebanon, spread over 148 locations including 84 have elected municipal councils. In the last municipal elections in 2004, the kaza ok Aakkar had 165,429 residents, 281,843 registred voters, including 155,407 voters.

There is one federation of municipalities (Federation of Mantaqat El Joumat Municipalities) in the caza of Aakkar.

The administrative center of the kaza is city of Halba. Kaza of Aakkar contains lots of famous locations like Qabaait, famed resort town.

Kaza of Aakkar is famous for its vegetables.
