The mohafazah of Aakkar is one of eight Lebanon’s mohafazah. It stretches of the river in El Bared River south to El Kebir along the Lebanese-Syrian border in the north, an area of up to 776 square kilometers.

There is one federation of municipalities and 100 municipalities in the mohafazah. In the last municipal elections (2004), the mohafazah of North-Lebanon counted 281 843 resgitered voters of which 155 407 voters. [1]

Independent Municipal Fund has allocated 15.757 billion (LBP) to municipalities and 2.091 billion (LBP) to the federation of municipalities of Aakkar for the year 2006. [2] .
